The Merkur M8 Set

This exciting and stimulating construction set, loved by children from age 5 years upwards, was introduced to the World in 1920. It is still, to this day, produced by a highly regarded toy manufacturer in the Czech Republic - the firm CROSS.

It is in the classic tradition of construction sets like Meccano and Erector.

Not just a toy but an educational stimulus which is instructive and aesthetic, the M8 provides unlimited creative possibilities. Who knows, they could help to redress the present shortage of young, much needed, skilled engineers.

Let's take a closer look at the MERKUR® M8 - The card box weighs in at over 14 pounds and measures 20.5 x 14 x 3 inches. Inside there are five tiered trays with moulded, vac-formed plastic compartments. There are 153 different part-types totaling an inventory of no less than 1,405 items! These are practically all of steel. The larger parts such as plates, girders and wheels are finished in red, blue, green and yellow paint. Some of the larger parts are duplicated in translucent, flexible plastic for use where curves or bends are called for. Smaller parts, such as brackets, axles, pulleys, screws, nuts, connectors etc. are finished in plated metal.

There are 8 gear sizes and 5 axle sizes. There are black rubber tyres both hollow and solid in various sizes.

The M8 also includes a 2-speed battery powered electric motor with integrated gearbox and reverse facility. The motor is easily mounted on any model built. Also included is a lighting set with bulbs and sockets. To power the electrics you will require three 'C' batteries. To complete the huge range of parts there is a universal tool set.

A 56-page manual gives instructions for building 100 different models but the young engineer can devise an almost unlimited range of models of his or her own design.

The M8 is a 'Real-World' mechanical construction set. It is particularly suitable for modelling vehicles; cars, trucks, tractors etc. and cranes, trains and 'planes, helicopters and all manner of machines. It is the largest set available on the market today. No other company makes a set this big!

The total price for MERKUR's flagship construction set is £199.00 sterling including courier delivery (UK only). (If you're not in the UK, then don't worry, we can deliver to anywhere in the world.)
